Died in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, after suffering a brain haemorrhage while returning home soon after finishing duty at the Force Control Room at Bilston Glen, on the southern outskirts of Edinburgh.

David joined the police in May 1982 and is survived by his wife and twin daughters.
