Incident
Officer Danny Cariker was killed in an automobile crash while responding to a request for backup from other officers at a man with a gun call at 10:30 p.m. While driving west on Barrett Avenue en route to the scene with emergency lights and sirens activated, a driver crossed 10th Street in front of him. He served to avoid hitting the vehicle, and his patrol car slid across the road and struck a utility pole. He was pronounced deceased at Brookside Hospital. Officer Cariker had served with the Richmond Police Department for ten months.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife and daughter.
