Incident
Trooper Daniel Shown succumbed to complications from a gunshot wound he received on December 18, 1988, during a domestic call in Lincoln City.
Trooper Shown responded to a backup request from deputies of the McLennan County Sheriff's Office who were responding to a domestic situation where a man was threatening his daughter and infant granddaughter with a shotgun. When Trooper Shown arrived on scene, the man fired, and Trooper Shown was struck in the forehead.
Trooper Shown was transported to Providence Hospital, where he lost his right eye, part of his brain, and suffered paralysis on the left side of his body. On February 27, 2026, he succumbed to complications from his wounds.
The suspect was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 20 years.
Survivors
Trooper Shown had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Highway Patrol for over eight years. Survivors include his three sisters, a brother, nieces, and nephews.
