Incident

Location: Overseas Weapon: Explosives; Improvised device Offender: Not available

Special Agent Daniel Kuhlmeier was killed when the vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device while on a counterintelligence mission in Baghdad, Iraq. The vehicle was part of a two-vehicle convoy en route to meet with local police officials participating in their investigation.

The force of the explosion threw the armored Suburban off of a highway overpass. The vehicle fell approximately 30 feet to the ground and landed on its roof.

A US Army soldier was also killed in the explosion. A second Office of Special Investigations special agent was severely wounded, and two other soldiers suffered minor wounds.

Agent Kuhlmeier had served with the agency for over two years, had previously served in the United States Marine Corps and in the United States Army Reserves, and volunteered for deployment to Iraq. He is survived by his wife and 2-year-old daughter. His father and brother both served as police officers for the Philadelphia Police Department.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Special Agent Kuhlmeier gave the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations 2 years.
Thank you for your service. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
