Incident
Sergeant Crit Hall suffered a fatal heart attack while pursuing a burglary suspect on foot. At 3:00 a.m., he responded to a burglary call at Don's Drive-In on US Highway 60. As Sergeant Hall was about to enter the building, one of the suspects exited and immediately fled. As he chased the man, he collapsed. Officer Hall was a World War I veteran of the United States Army who served with the Saint Albans Police Department for eight years. He also served with the West Virginia Highway Patrol for 16 years, the Richland County Sheriff's Department for 14 years, and as police chief at the Alderson Police Department and the Rainelle Police Department. He was survived by his wife and four children. One of his sons was a deputy in West Virginia and later served with the Ohio Highway Patrol.
