Incident
Officer Taylor was shot and killed after conducting a vehicle stop one block off of Hackelburg's main street. The vehicle was stopped behind the home of one of the suspects. As Officer Taylor was talking to one of the vehicles occupants, the other occupant walked over to his house and retrieved a 12-gague shotgun. He then returned and shot and killed Officer Taylor. Officer Taylor was found the following morning in a hunched forward position, face down. His.38 caliber pistol was found laying on the ground a few inches from his hand. The hammer on his firearm was still cocked but none of the six rounds had been fired. Both suspects were later arrested and shooter, 35, was sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled on August 27, 1977. On March 11, 1984, he was shot and killed by two men who broke into his home in Hartselle.
