Incident

On the night of 27th March, Constable McMurray was the observer in an unmarked police car that was the lead vehicle in a two-vehicle patrol.

Colleen and her colleagues were returning to Corry Square Police Station after providing security support to officers entering the town for a change of shift, while also providing routine community policing.

At 11:35pm, as they travelled along Merchants Quay beside the canal in Newry, County Down, a horizontal mortar hidden in a parked car was launched and struck the lead vehicle, seriously injuring both Constable McMurray and her colleague.

She was taken to hospital but died the following day.
