Incident
Trooper Clint Cunningham was shot and killed in an ambush in Franklin County. Trooper Cunningham was shot in the back while investigating a false report of a burglary at a grocery store. The suspect was arrested at his home a short time later. The 20-year-old suspect was convicted of Trooper Cunningham's murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Trooper Cunningham had been with the Kentucky State Police for three years and had previously served with the Lexington Police Department and the Richmond Police Department.
