Incident
Sergeant Chris Fisher was shot and killed outside the Meriwether County Inn at 5675 Spring Street in Warm Springs around 11:57 p.m.
Sergeant Fisher was sitting in his patrol vehicle after completing a traffic stop when a man pulled up next to him and fired into the patrol vehicle, killing Sergeant Fisher at the scene.
The man drove away, and a Blue Alert was issued. The suspect was transported to a South Carolina Hospital after he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a traffic stop. The suspect is believed to be a man whom Sergeant Fisher arrested the week prior.
Survivors
Sergeant Fisher had served with the Warm Spring Police Department for three months and previously served with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and Heard County Sheriff’s Office. Survivors include his wife and two children. His father also served in law enforcement.
