Incident

Game Warden Charles Rider was killed in a three-car crash involving a wrong-way driver on US 50-301 north of Grasonville, Maryland. The wrong-way driver was traveling north in the southbound lanes and struck a pickup truck that was passing the vehicle containing Game Warden Rider and another game warden. The impact forced the Game Wardens' vehicle off the road, crashing into an embankment. Game Warden Rider was transported to the Easton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from head injuries. The wrong-way driver died at the scene. The driver of the truck and the other game warden were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Game Warden Rider was a United States Army WWII veteran and had served with the Maryland Natural Resources Police for four years.

Tributes

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Game Warden Rider gave the Maryland Natural Resources Police 4 years.
Thank you for your service to the Annapolis community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
