Incident

State Traffic Officer Charles Alvitre was killed in a motorcycle crash on the San Juan Grade Road. He descended the San Juan Grade Road when he lost control, rounding a turn. He was thrown to the ground, suffering a fractured skull. Officer Alvitre was a Monterey County Traffic Squad member, which pre-dates the California Highway Patrol that was not established until August 1929. Officer Alvitre was a United States Army veteran of WWI, serving as a private in the 103 Aero Squadron. He was survived by his expectant wife, two sons, and parents. His daughter was born three months after his death. He is buried in the Old Calvary Cemetery in Salinas, California.
