Incident

Shot and killed after refusing to hand over the keys to the prison van in which he was transporting two Fenian prisoners, from Manchester Court to Belle Vue Prison when, at the railway bridge that crosses Hyde Road, the vehicle was attacked by a group of armed sympathisers who demanded the release of the prisoners.
