Incident
Trooper Byron Erickson died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash on July 2, 1993. The crash occurred during the pursuit of a felon who had stolen a vehicle. He suffered spinal cord injuries and was unable to recover. The subject was later apprehended and sentenced on multi-jurisdictional warrants. Trooper Erickson had served with the Michigan State Police for four and a half years.

He was survived by his wife and son.
