Incident
Sergeant Prothero was working a part-time security job at a jewelry store when four suspects entered the store and committed armed robbery. Sergeant Prothero attempted to stop the suspects outside in the parking lot, and he was shot several times. Sergeant Prothero was transported to the local medical center where he was pronounced dead. The off-duty security job was authorized by the department. The four suspects were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
