Barry J. Hoffman
Incident
Deputy Sheriff Barry Hoffman was shot and killed during a struggle with a suspect at 15815 Hawthorne Boulevard. He and his partner were questioning two suspects near a bar in Lawndale when they attempted to flee. A struggle ensued between Deputy Hoffman and one of the suspects, who pulled out a handgun and shot him in the head. Deputy Hoffman's partner shot and killed the suspect. Deputy Hoffman was transported to a local hospital where he died five days later. Deputy Hoffman had been with the agency for just over two years.
