Patrolman Anthony Balga was killed in an automobile crash while assigned to Patrol Borough Brooklyn.

He was driving an unmarked vehicle when he struck an abutment on the Manhattan Bridge near the intersection of Canal Street and Chrystie Street.

Patrolman Balga was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War who had served with the New York City Police Department for two years.
