Incident
Night Marshal Albert Rinks was shot and killed when he was ambushed by a man he had arrested earlier in the evening. Marshal Rinks arrested the man for drunk and disordely conduct. The suspect was released two hours later and driven home. The man then drove back into town and shot Marshal Rinks with a shotgun.
The 48-year-old suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life. His sentence was later reduced to 35 years. He was paroled on June 3, 1964.
