At approximately 7:30 p.m. on July 21, 2018, Police Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller responded to an assault and larceny call at a gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers. As officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot along Flint Drive with Officer Jobbers-Miller in pursuit. The man opened fire with a handgun and struck him. Another officer transported him to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he remained until he died of his wound on July 28, 2018. The subject was shot and wounded at the scene and taken into custody. In 2023 he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Officer Jobbers-Miller had served with the Fort Myers Police Department for three years and previously served as a firefighter with the Wayne Fire Department in New Jersey.

He is survived by his mother, father, two sisters, brother, and fiancée.

I remember the day it happened. Lee County held its breath for a week - Adam was fighting at Lee Memorial, and everybody around here was waiting on word that never came the way we wanted it to. July 28, 2018. This community has not forgotten it.
He was twenty-nine. Three years on the Fort Myers Police Department, and before that a firefighter in New Jersey - a man who had already chosen twice to be the one who runs toward it.
He is on this wall permanently. No fee to see him, no one tracked for looking, no company that can take him down. That is the entire point of what we built here.
Rest easy, Officer Jobbers-Miller. Lee County remembers.
