Incident
Lieutenant Matthew David Rawding served the Morristown Police Department for 27 and a half years, from 1997 until he retired in December 2024. He served in the Traffic Safety Unit, the Special Enforcement Unit and Field Training, and as Detective Lieutenant, and was remembered as a mentor to his fellow officers. He died on 23 September 2026, aged 64, after a heart attack on 12 September.
Survivors
Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Joan. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Denise; their seven children and their spouses, Veronica and Tom, Matt Jr. and Amanda, Tommy and Katie, Teddy and Maddie, Elizabeth, Kathleen and Jacob, and Christina; his grandchildren Isabella, Makenzie, Tommy and Penelope; and his siblings and their spouses, Jeff and Jeanne, Carole and Eileen, Artie, and Kenny.
Biography
Born in Orange, New Jersey, on 4 October 1961 to Frank and Joan Rawding, he grew up in Glen Ridge and Illinois before his family settled in Convent Station. He married Denise in 1987, and they made their home in Morris Plains. He loved soccer, golf and his family.
